Role

The Committees of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce help formulate the strategic sectoral roles of the Chamber. Sectoral experts— members of each Committee—organize events such as conferences, exhibitions, trade missions, seminars, and media briefs, as well as develop position papers, in order to advance the interests of member companies in a sector and/or to assist in policy formation, legislation, and government action.

Committees are the core interface of the Chamber vis-à-vis the government and societal stakeholders and play an essential role in the Chamber’s overall development.

Agrotechnology Committee

Mission Statement

To act as a catalyst among producers, industry and government; to help form a national strategy and facilitate reforms across the agro-industry value chain; to enhance competitiveness and to develop a framework for local products to penetrate world markets, especially the U.S. market.

Key Issues

• Economic development and increased employment through a stronger agrofood sector.
• Enhanced access of local agrofood products to world markets.
• Know-how transfer to ensure local producers are kept abreast of developments in the sector.
• Rational allocation of resources to ensure optimal effectiveness in production and marketing of products.
• Communication among stakeholders to ensure positions are part of the public dialogue.

Key Messages

Greece must design and implement a coherent and up-to-date national strategy for promoting its food products internationally.
Greece can improve the effectiveness of the sector through a more efficient allocation of resources and EU grants.
Greece can reap further benefits from synergies between the agrofood sector and other industries, esp. tourism.

Key Events

Agrotechnology Conference | An annual event held at the American Farm School in Thessaloniki that provides a forum for high level discussion among key stakeholders.

Meetings throughout the year with officials to discuss current issues, submit proposals and advocate on behalf of the agrofood industry.

Auditors Committee

Mission Statement

To conduct the legally required auditing of the Chamber’s accounts, receipts and the overall work of the Board of Directors for each calendar year. To ascertain that the administration of the Chamber’s finances and its operation in general, and in every respect, is carried out in proper order and to ensure that all accounting entries and respective vouchers are in order and all requested explanatory information is provided.

Circular Economy Committee

Mission Statement

To promote circular economy actions by organising events, to inform AmCham’s members on all European and national updates, to present best practices that enhance circular economy and environmental policies, to act as a think tank or sounding board and participate in public consultations and in national and international fora and events, to act as a liaison between the business community and the Greek government.

To create an innovative and timely challenging summit that brings together local and foreign representatives of the private and public sectors for a high-level debate and a constructive dialogue on key economic and business issues affecting today’s Greek and global economy.

Greek Economy Conference Committee Activities

• The organization of the annual Greek Economy Conference. The Greek Economy Conference is the flagship event of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce. It has been organized by the Chamber for 20 consecutive years with great success and has rightly been recognized and established as the leading and most successful conference in the economic sector in Greece.
• The highlights of the Conference are the keynote speeches of the Prime Minister of Greece and the Opposition Leader, delivered at the two official dinners. Since the addresses tend to outline progress of the previous year as well as current intentions and oppositions toward the course of the Greek and Global Economy, they are anticipated each year with great interest by the political and business community of Greece.

The conference attracts more than 500 delegates and speakers from Greece and abroad, who exchange views on current economic trends and issues.

To function as a conduit to the Greek real estate market for foreign and local investors through promotion the subject environment, advice as to the business and regulatory landscape, and service as an interlocutor to the Greek government on real estate questions and matters affecting specific the industry. It is in this context that the real estate committee will seek and secure the cooperation of other chamber committees.
To serve as an information exchange hub for members in relation to market trends and possible threats as well as an educational venue through the organization of real estate themed events and delegations to conferences, expositions and trade and commercial missions. To help establish the chamber’s credentials as a hub of expertise and best practice sharing among members and market participants more generally.

Mission Statement

Create an effective two-way communication platform with AmCham Tourism members to identify their business, legislative and marketing priorities and concerns.
