The CSR Committee of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce launched its “Sustainable Talks” initiative on June 14 at the Athineo creative brewing site. Sustainable Talks is a series of single subject discussions aiming to create a constructive dialogue platform on the integration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Greek business reality.
Christina Kontaxi, Managing Director, Mediterranean SOS Network (MedSOS) spoke on “Plastic Dreams and Nightmares” and addressed how plastic products are designed, produced, used and recycled to generate a positive environmental, financial and social impact. Plastic is the predominant marine litter in seas and coasts around Greece negatively impacting ecosystems, biodiversity and potentially human health. It was stressed that the most important step towards dealing with the plastic issue is to create a paradigm shift towards circular economy by promoting and implementing reuse practices.
MedSOS boosts citizen awareness and engagement through different campaigns as “Clean Up the Med” and “PTwist” programs aiming to contribute to embedding circular economy practices. Through awareness, sustainable practices and innovation, the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce supports a new plastics economy vision. Participants had the opportunity to be inspired and acknowledge the European “wave”. The discussion was moderated by Kiara Konti, Senior Manager, Climate Change and Sustainability Services, EY, and member of the CSR Committee. The 1st Sustainable Talks was sponsored by Athenian Brewery. More Sustainable Talks to follow!
