The 4th TRADING IN U.S. WATERS: Future Trends and Innovations in the Maritime Sector was held on June 6, 2024, at the Metropolitan Expo Center during Posidonia Week and attended by more than 300 delegates, representatives from the Greek and the global maritime community.
This important seminar is organized -every two years, during Posidonia-, by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (AmChamGR) and the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Athens and the support of the Int’l Propeller Club and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping – Maritime hellas navigate the Greek cluster and is expected with great interest by the representatives of the shipping industry.
Distinguished speakers from the Greek and global maritime community had the opportunity to inform the specialized audience of Posidonia about key issues that faces the maritime community today. Mr. Christos Stylianidis, Minister of Maritime and Island Policy, RDML Wayne R. Arguin Jr., Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, U.S. Coast Guard, Joe Hughes, Chairman, NAMEPA and Chairman, American P & I Club, Erik Holmgren, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the United States of America, Koichi Ito, Ambassador of Japan to Greece, Christopher Wiernicki, Chairman and CEO , American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Chairman of ABS’ Affiliated Companies and many many others expressed their insights and views during this worth to attend seminar.
During the seminar, future trends and innovations in the maritime industry were presented from experts coming from the shipping, governmental and academic communities. The uncertainty of our geopolitical environment today, driven by a range of factors including economic tensions, shifting alliances, technological competition, and regional conflicts, addressed during the seminar and provided an in depth understanding of how all these will affect shipping. At the decarbonization session speakers tried to define the path of not only creating a global framework supported with regulations but also map the infrastructure and fuels to support it. The digital transformation of the maritime industry, the evolving regulatory framework and the modern commercial applications/solutions which can lead to better decision-making, presented during the innovation in Digitalization session. Maritime employment in a shipping industry which is evolving rapidly, influenced by technological advancements and regulatory changes, and the needs for new roles and soft skills discussed in depth.
The unique Shark Tank session was marked by great success and managed once more to impess the audience with the innovative U.S. technologies that has been presented and have the potential to revolutionize the industry.This exciting idea, based on a U.S. TV show, was designed to introduce the latest innovative companies advancing the shipping industry to the global audience. A panel of shipowners/potential investors (“SHARKS”) watched the presentations or the representatives of six U.S. new tech companies (“CHUM”) which showcased their ideas and received instant feedback from the industry.
