DESFA and NER JSC SKOPJE signed today, September 10th, a Cooperation Agreement for the development and construction of the Greece-North Macedonia Gas Interconnector, in the framework of the 5th Southeast Energy Forum organized in Thessaloniki by AmCham Greece and the Hellenic Association For Energy Economics (HAEE), , in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States in Greece.
The Cooperation Agreement, which establishes the cooperation principles pursuant to which DESFA and NER intend to coordinate the main phases, respective commitments and accompanying milestones of the development of the project, was signed between the CEO of DESFA, maria rita galli and the Executive Director of NER JSC SKOPJE, Bajram Rexhepi, in the presence of the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas , the General Secretary for Energy and Mineral Resources, Alexandra Sdoukou and the US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt.
With a total length of 123 km and an initial transmission capacity of 1.5 billion c.m./year (possibility to reach 3 billion c.m./year), the pipeline will extend from Nea Mesimvria, near Thessaloniki, to Negotino via the Evzoni/Gevgelija interconnection point, connecting the national gas transmission systems of Greece and North Macedonia.
